This book, published by Mondadori Electa, describes the extraordinary historic-artistic heritage of Borromeo Palace, an exquisite jewelbox on Isola Bella rising from the waters of Lake Maggiore. The authors are two noted historians of Italian art: Marco Carminati and Stefano Zuffi, who describe over four centuries of history by explaining the background and beauty of this marvelous edifice and its terraced gardens. The story follows the stucco and marble halls, the Berthier Gallery with over 130 paintings, the Flemish tapestries of gold and silk, the ancient sculptures and armor. There is also space to explore the architecture of the gardens and grottos, commissioned by Vitaliano VI as a shelter from the summer heat and a place for leisure. The book ends with a section dedicated to the palace's illustrious guests and all the anecdotes and curiosities that revolve around the island. The photographs, done especially for the book, were provided by Massimo Listri, a master of interior photography, whose shots recount the history of the place and reveal its soul. Less
